Three Sports disciplines in Brome-Missisquoi
by | 30 April 2019

Brome-Missisquoi is a region renowned for its sports and outdoor activities. Here, on weekends, everybody takes advantage of the outdoors, and this even when it’s -20 o. You won’t find many people drinking coffee and spending Sunday afternoons binge-watching on Netflix here, and we can understand why! There are so many other things to do.

Are you the athletic type or a fan of outdoor activities? Here are three sports disciplines you can practise, only a few minutes away from your home if you make the move and settle in Brome-Missisquoi.

1. Skiing and Snowboarding

In Brome-Missisquoi, there are two ski centres: Mount Sutton, famous for its glades and powder snow, and Bromont, renowned for its evening skiing and accessibility. Two impressive mountains where those who feel passionate about skiing and snowboarding can slalom down over 200 trails!

People impatiently await the opening of every ski season, for the sport, but also because it’s the time of year when they come together with their friends and family in a warm and unique après-ski ambiance. It’s the perfect excuse for sharing a glass of wine and a delicious meal with the people they love!

2. Stand Up Paddle or SUP

By living in Brome-Missisquoi people have the opportunity to live an active, balanced lifestyle, but also find some time for themselves! Paddling on a surf board, also known as SUP (Stand Up Paddle) or paddle boarding, is the perfect activity for relaxing in nature.

If you already have a paddleboard, all the lakes of Brome-Missisquoi will become your favourite playgrounds (Lakes Brome, Davignon, Selby, etc.). If you’d like to try this activity, BALNEA spa, in Bromont, Aloha Surf at the Knowlton Marina and Au Diable Vert, in Sutton are three great places! As you can see, people here have as much fun in summer as in winter!

3. Uphill Skiing

Often referred to as ski touring, uphill skiing requires going up a mountain trail on skis before heading down the slopes. The ascension is done by placing climbing skins underneath specially designed skies which they remove for the descent.

Those who practise this sport love to discover less visited backcountry trails and they’re very well served by the mountains they’ll find here!

The vast territory covered by our region, its lakes, forests, mountains and its rivers allow people to practise a panoply of disciplines and sports activities that meet the needs of thrill seekers and fresh air adepts alike. All this, only a few minutes from your home, after work or on the weekend with your family and your friends.
